Sunrise at Concord Point
The lighthouse anchors one end of a charming waterfront promenade; you’ll often see residents and visitors alike strolling past sweeping views of the mouth of the Susquehanna River and the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay. Wildlife is abundant here: Canada geese, a variety of ducks, herons, squirrels and other critters are always around. At the other end of the three-quarter-mile-long promenade is the city marina and Tydings Park, a hub of summertime festival activity. The town’s best-known landmark, Concord Point Lighthouse is a magnet for photographers...its scenic location and classically quaint appearance are hard to resist! What’s challenging is to figure out how to shoot the building in a unique way, so it doesn’t look like every other photo of it. I’d never seen an image of the lighthouse at dawn, so despite my so not being a morning person, I decided to give it a try very early one mid-June morning. Sunrise at Concord Point, shown here, is one result of my efforts. This image looks great in a matted triptych with two other images I shot the same morning: the War of 1812 cannon (just behind the lighthouse in this image) and a view of the Promenade heading away from the lighthouse, similar to this one.
